Traveling home, or as we say, “mudik,” has always been an Indonesian tradition and is a treasured moment to strengthen the bond of the entire extended family. Traveling for great distances can become a not so fun experience if it isn’t well prepared for. Traffic jams, delayed public transportations and long travelling time can make children tired and fussy.
Moms and Dads, let’s try some of these tips to make sure that your familys’ mudik trip is a fun one.
1. Good Preparation
Make sure your trip is well prepared. Check your tires, get to the airport or the station on time, decide the traveling routes you want to take before leaving, download mobile GPS and get tickets and documents ready so that they don’t get left behind. This way, you will avoid any unwanted things from happening.
2. Bring Your Children’s Favorite Toys and Create Your Own Games
Anticipate your childrens’ boredom while being on the road by not forgetting to bring their favorite toys or books. Let them also play their favorite games on your devices once in a while. Another alternative is to play riddles or guessing games with them or tell them exciting stories about the family and the hometown they are going to visit. Your mudik atmosphere is guaranteed to be more exciting.
3. Rest Often
If you’re going by your own personal transport, try to stop and rest every 2-3 hours. Other than letting the driver take a break, it also prevents the children from easily getting bored. When stopping to rest, try to find a place where Moms and Dads can take the children to enjoy the surrounding environment or even have a picnic.
4. Prepare Snacks And Drinks
Another thing that can disturb a trip is if the children are suddenly hungry and there are no shops around for you to buy any food or you can’t stop because you’re on a train or airplane. Prepare their favorite snacks, light snacks and also ones that are more fulfilling, and enough drinks. Don’t forget to bring Dancow Fortigro which has nutrition that helps maintain your child’s immunity for the whole trip.
5. Prepare An Everything Bag
To make sure your trip goes smoothly, it wouldn’t hurt to prepare a bag that has a few of these important things in it:
• Wet tissues, tissues, and antiseptic handwash
• First aid kit, fever medicine and rubbing oils
• Toiletries such as soap, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste
• Prepare extra clothes
• Thin blanket, just incase the car’s air conditioner gets too cold
And now that everything is ready, may you have a safe and exciting mudik trip!
